Brian Nagy is a fun loving, Gentle Giant with an incredible smile who unfortunately has a history of growing benign brain tumors. A few months ago, doctors found 2 new brain tumors growing on his frontal lobe. Brian had to undergo surgery to remove these tumors and now has a long road of recovery ahead of him. To help take some of the financial burden off Brian and his wife, Marlene, their friends have created this fundraiser. The money we raise will help cover Brian's long list of medical bills, which includes a number of therapies, nursing care, facility costs and medical equipment.
In addition to asking for financial help, we are also asking for prayers for Brian, Marlene, and the medical professionals helping him during his recovery. Brian and Marlene are very religious individuals who are active in their church and enjoy giving back to their community. We hope the community will come together to show them some love and support during this difficult time.
More on Brian's story...
Despite having serious medical issues in the past, Brian has always been a happy, strong willed, caring, religious man whose smile can light up a room. But, on November 20, 2019, Brian faced this 4th brain surgery, which was very different from those he had prior. Although he had been through this before, this time the recovery would be very different. This is due to the fact that these tumors were growing on his frontal lobe. The frontal lobe of the brain is essentially the "control panel" of our body. It controls personality, our ability to communicate, and motor function. Therefore, after Brian's surgery he had multiple seizures a day, was unable to move his extremities and could not communicate or swallow. He laid in bed helpless, waiting for the medications to reduce the swelling in his brain, in hopes of gaining back his functions and stopping the seizures. His wife, Marlene who is an Art Teacher at Lutheran East, was by his side everyday.
A couple weeks after his surgery, Brian was able to move his left hand and his legs a little bit, and the seizures stopped, but he still could not sit up by himself, communicate or swallow. The doctors decided to place a feeding tube in Brian's stomach for nutrition. After the feeding tube was placed, Brian was sent to a rehab center for the rest of his recovery.
Sadly, due to insurance, Brian has been transferred to 3 different facilities over the course of his rehabilitation. Although Brian has been making a lot of progress and is now able to talk in sentences and walk with a walker, his insurance has stopped paying for all of his care just 6 short weeks after his brain surgery.
Presently, Brian and Marlene are privately paying for his current facility, medical care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and any medical equipment he needs to regain his strength and independence. Funds raised for Brian will help cover these expenses while he is in the facility and for the care he will need to receive once he is home.
Despite Brian's difficult journey, he is smiling again with the same light he always had! He continues to work hard with his therapists to regain his faculties so that he can go back home and live his life to the fullest!
Thank you for taking the time to read Brian's story. We hope that you share his story with friends and family so that we can show Brian that there is a community of love, prayers and support for him! God bless!
