Brian, my stepdad, has always been the happiest and most positive person I know. He’s the kind of person who lights up a room with his smile and has a deep love for his family, especially his grandkids. Brian’s adventurous spirit led him to travel and explore new places, but above all, he’s been a constant source of love and support for everyone around him.
Last year, Brian was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called SCLC. He bravely went through extensive chemotherapy and radiation, which helped shrink the cancer, but not before it spread to his brain. Now, he’s facing two large tumors—one dangerously close to his spine—and many smaller tumors throughout his brain. These challenges have made it very difficult for him to move, eat, and drink on his own.
Brian needs a home nurse to help with daily activities like getting out of bed, taking his medication, eating, and anything else he may need throughout the day. Having a nurse at home will allow Brian to spend more time surrounded by family, in comfort and dignity. My mom continues to work, when she can, and then come home to care for Brian, which is incredibly demanding. Their insurance, which has been great throughout his treatment, unfortunately does not cover in-home nursing care. Your support will make a real difference in helping us provide the care Brian needs during this incredibly difficult time.
