My name is David Dalke. My brother, Brian Dalke, seen in the cover photo with one of the locals he has met on his around the world sailing expedition, began his solo navigation in 2020 after buying his 1978 CAL 39’ sailboat in Seattle, Washington. Brian is an independent spirit with many, varied skills and wanted to accomplish this task with minimal assistance from friends and family. Since the beginning, there have been numerous unexpected and uncontrollable forces increasing the difficulty of this inherently dangerous journey: a world-wide pandemic forcing a prolonged delay in American Samoa, a rocket war in the Red Sea forcing numerous delays through the Suez Canal zone, and many unexpected repairs requiring constant balancing of a very strict budget. Now, while in Greece, Brian has experienced a medical situation which placed a final blow to his financial planning for this adventure: a cancer tumor on his eye lid requiring surgical removal in Greece. This unexpected medical issue has depleted Brian’s financial reserves. As a result, I suggested Brian allow me to initiate a Go-Fund me page and accept gifts from friends and yet to be met friends of like-minded spirit to get this solo sailing navigation back on track.
