Hello, my name is Brian O’Keefe and I am asking for your help to avoid eviction. I lost my job last year and have still not been able to find work. EDD discontinued my benefits after six months because they said that I needed to have earned $1300 during the time that I was unemployed to be able to renew my unemployment benefits. In June of this year, my wife had emergency surgery and an uninsured nine day hospital stay for a perforated ulcer repair and was also diagnosed with diabetes. While my wife was recovering, we couldn’t pay everything with her disability check and now we’re behind on bills. She was denied Medicaid and then we received a hospital bill for $185, 358.75. As crushing as that amount was, our immediate concerns are rent, utilities and car insurance. We’re two months behind on our rent and utilities and we can’t afford car insurance for me to drive my wife to work and the bus often gets her to work late or she has to leave early. Our landlord has been incredibly patient with us but his patience is quickly coming to an end. I survived colon, bladder and lung cancer for twelve years until I was finally cured. That was the hardest thing that I ever lived through but sometimes this year feels harder because I feel so helpless about being unable to take care of my family. I know that times are tough all over and I hate to ask for money but we’re desperate and need help. I am setting a goal of $6714 for the missed payments and to bring us up to date with rent, utilities, car insurance and the few smaller medical bills. If you’re willing to help, we’d be so grateful for anything. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
