Hi everyone!
My name is Bria, and I’m a senior Psychology Honors student at the University of San Francisco. This spring, I was selected to present two research studies at the Western Psychological Association (WPA) in Tacoma, Washington, from April 29 to May 3, 2026. This is an opportunity that means so much to me both academically and personally.
My individual research focuses on how adolescents are growing up in a digital world, specifically exploring parasocial relationships, social media use, and how these factors shape identity and maturity. As someone who is deeply passionate about understanding and supporting young people, especially those navigating identity, culture, and mental health, this work feels incredibly close to home.
The second study explores leadership in team sports, focusing on how athletes regulate emotions under pressure and how leadership can shift over time. We examine how emotion regulation strategies relate to performance, coping, and team dynamics.
Unfortunately, due to limited funding, I was not awarded financial support through my school’s Student Travel Fund. While I completely understand the circumstances, it does leave me covering the costs of travel, lodging, food, and conference registration on my own.
Attending WPA would allow me to share my research and connect with other scholars. Most importantly, it’s a chance to represent not only my university, but also the communities and experiences that have shaped my work.
If you’re able to support in any amount, it would truly mean the world to me! And if not, sharing this page is just as appreciated :D Thank you for being part of my journey and for believing in student research, representation, and the power of always staying curious.
With gratitude,
Bria
