My name is Brianna but most call me Bri. A little about me before I get into the medical aspect is I am a junior attending the University of Connecticut. I am studying pre-med biology with hopes of attending medical school for anesthesiology. In my free time I enjoy photography, riding dirtbikes, being outdoors when the sun is shining, and hanging out with family.
Now to get into my medical, I was born with a heart problem causing me to have surgery when I was 2 weeks old. My first open heart surgery I had was when I was 2 years old. Ever since then I had a surgery every 2 years to fix something with my heart. I was being seen at Hartford until 1 year my mom wanted a second opinion so we went to Boston and they told us that I had needed surgery when Hartford said I was okay. So ever since then I have stayed with Boston and have had the remaining of my surgeries there. My last 3 open heart surgeries were valve replacements with my last one being in 2015 making it 6 open heart surgeries. In December of 2019 they performed a chest reconstruction where they put 4 bars in my chest. It was a pretty extensive surgery. I was told before this surgery that most of all my tissue and muscle would not be the same after surgery and if I did not like the way my chest looked after a year that I could get implants medically. A year after surgery we tried getting insurance to pay for the surgery but they would not see it as a medical case even though I wrote them a letter about my life. They saw me getting the surgery as a cosmetic surgery which I was not getting it for cosmetic reasons as much as medical. We tried fighting 3 times with the insurance and they wouldn't budge. I had told my mom that I would just not get the surgery so we would not have to pay out of pocket but she knew that it was not what I wanted so we went ahead with the surgery which I got on February 27, 2021 and was paid out of pocket.
I am making this GoFundMe without my mom's knowledge as of now because I want to be able to raise money to give back to her to help pay for all my medical bills that stack up. I have had medical bills for almost 21 years now due to surgeries, appointments, medication and more. If you can spare any little bit and donate it would me a lot to my whole family.
