Help Bri pay medical bills after hit-and-run
On Tuesday, January 17th, my sister Brianne was riding a rideshare scooter from her apartment in DC to take a workout class. A few blocks from her apartment, she was riding through a four-way stop when she was struck by a car that ran through the stop sign. When Brianne was thrown from the scooter across the street, the driver pulled over long enough to yell “It wasn’t my fault!” before zooming away from the scene.
Fortunately, there were Good Samaritans in the area who helped Brianne, called 911 and her boyfriend, found and saved her tooth that was fully knocked out, and attempted to chase down the perpetrator and record the license plate number. Later, we learned from law enforcement that the car that struck her had stolen tags, making it very difficult (maybe impossible) to track down the woman who hit her.
Brianne was taken by ambulance to Howard University Hospital’s Emergency Department. Luckily, aside from swelling and bruising, her injuries were contained to her face and mouth: she received 12 stitches in her forehead and had her front tooth temporarily partially reattached.
Though things could have been SO much worse, she still has a significant road to recovery. Since her teeth were cracked and knocked out, the nerves were damaged to the point where she needs to get several root canals followed by getting caps and crowns on the damaged teeth. These procedures are time-sensitive and, unfortunately, not covered by her insurance. As the victim, she should not be liable for these medical bills, but since the driver is unknown, this VERY significant financial burden now falls to her.
I’m raising money to assist her with paying these sudden and extreme medical bills. We have a goal of $6000 (updated because we got more info about the dental fees♀️) to cover approximately $5000 worth of dental procedures, plus the hospital and ambulance bills from the night of the accident.
Thank you so much for your support!
