Help Bri overcome barriers for safe housing

Hi, my name is Chani.

I am fundraising for my little sister Bri. I'll begin to briefly summarize that growing up we faced MANY challenges. Some of which were traumatic and have set me and my siblings up for a tremendous amount of personal work to do. With much resilience Bri has been able to overcome certain barriers, she now finds herself homeless with no resources or parental adults to rely on. Bri has spent most of her life helping care for our Mother (Who suffers from mental illness) and our younger siblings, which has left her unable to adequately establish herself autonomously as an adult. With the challenges that present from childhood trauma and adversity, my little sister is faced with having no one to rely on much less feeling empowered to ask for help. And quite frankly, us siblings are our only immediate family.

If most of you know me personally, you know that I am passionate about helping those less fortunate in our community. I work with women in the Greater Portland community who are battling and fighting the barriers that accompany homelessness. Needless to say, I feel quite helpless knowing that my younger sister is sleeping in her car at the moment, all the way in Minnesota. While distance is also a factor, monetarily I am unable to fully house my sister on a social work wage and as a full time student, otherwise I totally would.

Someone once told me: "It takes one person to make a difference in someone's life." and I'll tell you my sister is such a smart and giving human, she deserves more than what circumstance has offered her.
