Help Brett, who always helps others

Hi all, 

My name is Steven Khalil-Salib, I have been fortunate enough to be a close family friend of the Peatling family for over 30 years. After witnessing the hardship of both mentally and financially challenging times for the whole family through Brett's health issues, I felt the need to get in contact with some other close friends and put our efforts into raising much needed funds for Brett. 

Please read his story below. 

At the age of 18 months Brett lost his first kidney to Wilms tumour. As Brett got older he was able to then live a relatively normal life with one Kidney. Brett was fortunate enough to be able to play sport and was an influential player at North Heidelberg Football club. Brett played in many finals and was a fierce tagger becoming one of the best in the Diamond Valley. His keen interest in sport lead him to become a personal fitness trainer for many elite Australian Jockeys and high profile Australian personalities. Bretts influence was so great to the sporting elite that Glen Boss, after winning the the 2009 Cox Plate on 'So You Think' and riding at just 49kg, thanked Brett on National Television for his training performance and achieving the required weight. 

In June of 2017 Brett unfortunately was diagnosed with end stage Kidney Disease in his last Kidney. This meant that Brett was forced to give up all of his work and daily life routines. By June of 2017 his Kidney had gone into total failure and he had to endure 9.5 hours of dialysis every day.  Brett's mother, Cheryl, was a compatible Kidney match and in March 2018 they both went into surgery to save Bretts life. Cheryl was able to not only give him life once but twice. 

All of Bretts life savings have diminished and as a long time family friend I ask that you all help me get behind him by raising money that is needed for ongoing support and every day living. Brett has given so much in keeping others healthy and putting others first, now Brett needs our help to give him a second chance in life.

The North Heidelberg Sporting Club have graciously made available their club rooms and are helping with a fundraiser day to support Brett.
