This past October, I wrote and shot a short pilot, Hypocrite, that draws from real experiences I've had in my life living with a physical condition. It's the first thing I've ever directed and is definitely the first thing I've ever written that has talked about having Klippel Feil syndrome.
I've been very lucky to get the short into film festivals across the country and have an opportunity to travel to them to speak about the short but more importantly tell my story in person.
The catch. I'm a broke actor and can't afford to pay for the flights, accommodations, and also make up for the money I miss out on when I'm missing work here in LA.
There's no guaranteed opportunities what will happen with the pilot, whether it will someday get developed into a TV show or even win anything at the festivals, but the guaranteed opportunity I do have is a platform for people to see me, hear from me in person, and talk about how we can improve how people with physical disabilities and conditions are treated and portrayed on television and film. An opportunity to use my specific situation to make a direct impact through doing what I love. This has been a passion of mine, really my #1 passion and why I moved from small town Nebraska out to LA.
I thank you and am deeply grateful for all the support you have already given me and appreciate any amount you may be able to donate. Please feel free to email me directly if you have any questions or thoughts as I would love to tell you more about the project if you'd like to hear more.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Brett Maline
