Help Brett during his cancer treatment & recovery

I am setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my son Brett Burke. Until now we have only spoke of this to family and close friends, now it is time to share.
Brett has recently been diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. In January 2022 he noticed a painless mass in his right thigh. He is very physically active and thought he might have injured himself in some way during a work out. By March it had grown to softball size. Also, he had noticed increased fatigue and unintentional weight loss. His family doctor in Des Moines ordered an ultrasound then an MRI. The results were suggestive of a sarcoma. He then had a biopsy, the results were sent to Mayo, and 19 days later came back as inconclusive.
We did some research and submitted all of his records to MD Anderson in Houston. They have one of the best Sarcoma Centers in the country and they agreed to take him on as a patient.
In April we were in Houston for a week. They did more testing including a second biopsy, this biopsy revealed he had Liposarcoma. Starting June 20th he will begin treatment in Houston that will last 4 weeks. In August he is scheduled to have a radical removal of the mass. It’s a very extensive surgery that will be performed by his surgical oncologist, vascular oncologist and a plastic surgeon. The surgery will be quite extensive due to the size, depth, and it being in close proximity to femoral neurovascular structures.
Funds will be used for expenses not covered by insurance, travel, lodging, and downtime from his job while going through treatment, surgery, and recovery.
Anyone who knows Brett knows that he is strong and determined. Your support is much appreciated. Thank all of you. Robin Burke.
