I'm Brett Greiman, a life long resident of York, PA. I've been a teaching and working artist for well over three decades. I’ve been invited to accompany a team of surgeons and other medical professionals with the Building Solid Foundations organization, (http://(www.buildingsolidfoundations.org) on a medical mission to Apam, Ghana for two weeks this November. There, I will create much needed murals in the St.Luke’s hospital which will help to alleviate the stress of those awaiting surgeries which this brilliant medical team will provide. I will have students and others from the Apam, Ghana community as my apprentices/assistants so that they can learn the process of mural building and then take those new skills and knowledge back into their community in the coming years with the inspiration and confidence to bring their own creativity to life through future murals throughout their town.

 

As an artist, I see this as an extraordinary opportunity to use art as a tool in its vital role of enriching and strengthening the Apam, Ghana community in profound ways, creating a shared sense of community, identity and belonging. Through murals at the St. Luke’s hospital, art will transform ordinary spaces into areas for the patients of the hospital to feel at ease. Beyond that, ultimately, art connects us – across backgrounds, generations, and beliefs. It reminds us of our shared humanity and gives communities the tools to celebrate, heal, and imagine a better future together.

 

So now I have the opportunity to make all the profound effects of art happen on an international level and I’m asking for your help. I’ve accepted this opportunity as a pro-bono project and I must raise the funds to cover the cost of art materials and travel expenses. This totals $4,660. Any amount you can donate towards this hugely important mission is greatly appreciated! Appreciated not only by me but very much to be appreciated by the citizens of Apam who I’ll work with and educate in mural painting as my apprentices/assistants so they can take those skills back into painting murals in their community but very importantly, appreciated by the patients of St. Luke’s hospital for whom your support of this art project will provide a bit less anxiety as they await their surgeries. We're all in this together...ART CHANGES EVERYTHING!
