Hi everyone, we are creating this GoFund on behalf of my father Brett Johnson who has been recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. The cancer diagnosis has unfortunately come shortly after a tough 12 months where he had an accident resulting in a detached Pectoral major tendon, a 4cm x 3cm tear in the bicep and tore the trapezius at the insertion point into the shoulder. These injuries required major shoulder surgery and spinal surgery with Brett having to take a year off work to recover, putting massive financial pressure on him exhausting savings and his superannuation.

The fortunate news is he has had an early cancer diagnosis and is hoping to have a positive outcome provided he receives treatment. Because of the early diagnosis, he has been selected to be part of a focal treatment known as NanoKnife; however, this treatment is still in the experimental phase. It is not covered by Medicare or Private Health, making it extremely expensive to pay out of pocket.

The advantages of focal treatments of the prostate such as the NanoKnife allow eradication of the cancer with minimal side effects, which is why Brett has decided to be part of the program to help future prostate cancer sufferers find a better treatment option with less side effects.

On average, the cost of this treatment is around $30 000; however, that doesn't include travel and accommodation to Sydney for treatment nor the follow-up scans, biopsies and appointments. This brings me to why we have started this GoFund, to help Brett cover the costs of this cancer treatment. We would be extremely appreciative of any help you can give my Dad during this tough time and I know he would be eternally grateful to you all.
