Help Brett and Nikki Cross move out of Uvalde

I am fundraising to help my friends Brett and Nikki Cross move out of Uvlade, Tx.

On May 24, 2022, Brett and Nikki lost their 10-year-old son, Uziyah Garcia, in the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Uziyah was one of 19 children and 2 teachers killed that day. Seventeen others were wounded while 376 officers stood outside for 77 minutes, allowing the unbelievable to happen inside.

Now imagine trying to grieve the violent death of your child in a town that tells you to “move on.” Imagine being harassed in your own community, arrested and assaulted for demanding the truth. Imagine being called names simply for asking that people be held accountable for their inactions. Imagine seeing the faces of the officers who stood around while your child was being murdered. This is the reality Brett and Nikki have lived every single day since their son was stolen from them.

Despite their grief, Brett and Nikki have become tireless advocates. They’ve marched, protested, traveled to Austin and Washington D.C., stood beside other parents who’ve lost children to gun violence, and shared Uziyah’s story with anyone willing to listen and even those who weren’t. They are fighting not just for their son, but so no other parent has to experience this kind of pain.

But they can’t heal in the place that broke them. Uvalde is not a safe or supportive home for them. They need to move, for peace, for healing, for survival.

Brett and Nikki are not part of any lawsuits. They are not seeking money from tragedy. They are working-class people, like you and me, trying to rebuild their lives in the wake of trauma most of us cannot begin to imagine.
