Three days ago, I woke up to a complete nightmare.

My RV, which was my home, was filled with thick smoke and total darkness. I could barely see anything. Once I got outside, I realized there was a fire in the back room near where the electrical power connects to the RV.

I immediately grabbed a water hose and started fighting the fire. At the time, it seemed relatively small, and I was able to get the flames out. Once I thought the fire was under control, I realized my dog, Lyric, was still inside.

He was in his kennel in the same back room where the fire had started.

I covered my mouth and went back inside through the smoke to get him. Thank God I was able to reach him, get him out safely, and secure him in my truck.

It wasn't until after I got Lyric out that everything changed.

The fire suddenly reignited and became much more intense than it had been the first time. I grabbed the hose again, climbed on top of the RV, and continued fighting it until the volunteer fire department arrived. By then, the inside of the RV had become filled with extreme heat and smoke.

Thankfully, Lyric and I both made it out safely, but our home didn't.

Between the fire, smoke, heat, and water, most of my belongings were either destroyed or badly damaged. I lost my home along with clothes, furniture, electronics, personal belongings, and so many of the everyday things you don't realize you depend on until they're suddenly gone.

Unfortunately, the RV was not insured yet. I had been dealing with problems getting the title transferred after the previous owner did not complete everything that was needed for it to be properly registered and sold in Texas. I was in the process of getting a bonded title when the fire happened.

Because of that, I don't have insurance to replace the RV or cover everything I lost inside.

Lyric and I are basically starting over from the ground up.

Asking for help is not something that comes easily to me. I've always tried to be the person who helps other people when I can, so being in a position where I'm the one asking for help is difficult. But right now, I could really use it.

Anything raised will go toward replacing essential belongings, clothing, temporary living expenses, and helping me get another RV or place for Lyric and me to call home.

More than anything, I'm thankful that I was able to get Lyric out. Everything else can eventually be replaced. He can't.
