Brent Walker has dedicated over 12 years to Planting Justice, an Oakland nonprofit that creates living wage jobs for formerly incarcerated people, runs food justice educational programs in local schools, and supports low-income communities with healthy food. As a father to Harlan (14), Maverick (12), and Laura (9), Brent has always been a pillar of strength and love for his family and his community. I’ve been a part of their lives since the kids were born, and I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact Brent has had on everyone around him.

On Thanksgiving, an accidental fire destroyed the kids' home. All three children lost everything—their clothes, furniture, bedding, toys, electronics, and more. The family is now struggling to find secure housing, and the emotional toll has been immense. Tragically, their beloved dog passed away in the fire, and Maverick has experienced seizures for the first time in his life, likely due to the overwhelming stress of losing their home.

The funds raised will go directly toward helping Brent and his children rebuild. They need essentials like electronics for school, clothes, furniture, bedding, and toys.
