Residents of the Jefferson Apartments in Squirrel Hill never imagined that a sleepy Tuesday morning would be the last time they stepped foot in their homes. What started as a faint burning smell—assumed to be a neighbor overcooking breakfast—quickly turned into an unmistakable, more serious reality. As firefighters evacuated the building, its occupants were forced to watch in helplessness as their homes were consumed by flames.

Among the displaced residents is Brenna Scott, the heart of Casbah and its beloved head pastry chef. Known for her snarky humor, Brenna brings a cheerfulness to her demanding job – always willing to chat and offer sweet treats. When she’s not plating desserts for guests, she’s whipping up end-of-night snacks for her coworkers. Often an unexpected pick-me-up at the end of a long shift, it has become a much-appreciated tradition. Brenna’s caring and playful spirit has created an atmosphere of comfort and familiarity for everyone around her.
