Help Brenique with a second chance at life!
I am so grateful that you decided to take the time to read my story. Thank you.

My name is Brenique Conliffe. I am 29 years old and I am a former grade one teacher, from Nassau, The Bahamas. At the age of 12, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This diagnosis changed my life forever and required to take daily insulin shots. As you can imagine, being faced with such a life altering disease at an early age was devastating but I persevered.

Regardless of my commitment to fight and live a happy and healthy life, this new normal was not met without its challenges. During my adolescent years and my 20’s, I battled against various health complications.

In 2020, I began experiencing severe kidney related issues. This resulted in countless visits to doctors in Canada, and Cuba, trying different methods in an effort to reverse the progression of this disease. These trips did not occur without sacrifices from my mother, who has stood by me through this journey from day one. Unfortunately after many doctor visits, trips and hospital stays, no treatment was successful. Eventually the condition of my health became too unpredictable, due to the severe daily symptoms that I was experiencing. I was left with no other choice than to take a sabbatical from both my career and community service to prioritize my well being.

Between 2020 and 2022, I continued to see kidney specialists, hopeful that there would be a positive turnaround with the state of my kidneys. In the latter part of 2022 however, I was diagnosed with stage five, renal failure. My kidneys were functioning at 5%, and I required dialysis treatment. I now receive dialysis treatment 3 times a week, which only maintains the current state of my kidneys. The escalation of events has been an extreme adjustment for me, physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and financially but with my faith in God and the support of my family and friends, I continue to push forward.

In order to return to my normal way of living and to continue fulfilling my passion as a teacher, I need a kidney transplant. This news was shocking to me, and took some time for me to process. In fact, some days are still more difficult than others dealing with all that comes with dialysis and still maintaining diabetes. Nonetheless, I am determined to continue fighting for my health so that I can have a second chance at life.

With your donation, I am hoping to receive a kidney transplant and get back to doing what I love (teaching), serving my community and also do my part in bringing awareness and prevention to this disease. I am grateful for all that God has done for me, and I am confident that along with your generosity, He will deliver me from this difficult chapter in my story. Every prayer, share, and dollar counts. I deeply appreciate it all, and I am eternally grateful. Thank you, so much, from the bottom of my heart. God bless you!
