Hi, my name is Amy. I'm raising money to help my son beat SMAS ( superior mesenteric artery syndrome).
November 2021 Brenden started experiencing weight loss, abdominal pain and severe acid reflex. After 4 separate ER visits and no answers our PCP referred us fo a GI doctor.
They did an EGD and took several biopsies. This was at the end of January 2022, in those few short months he went from 154 lbs to 116 lbs. While waiting on the biopsy results Brenden was in excruciating pain just after drinking water, On Feb 3, in the middle of a snow storm I drove him 2 hrs to one the largest hospitals in our state. They diagnosed him with SMAS; what this means is his intestine is being compressed between his aortic and mesenteric arteries causing a complete blockage. He cannot eat or digest food. He was literally starving to death. He has been in the hospital for 5 weeks, Doctors tried an NG tube but couldn't get it passed the blockage, then tried a J-tube directly into his jejunum, this was working for a few weeks, but is no longer working now. His intestines have slow motility. They will be transferring him to Cleveland Clinic....almost 4 hours away.
Between doctor bills, gas and hotels this is going to add up fast.
As a healthcare professional and as a mother, I feel like I am failing my son, please help me get Brenden the proper treatment so I bring him home safely.
Thank you,
God Bless you All
