My name is B, and I am reaching out for support as I navigate a challenging chapter in my life. In 2005, after surviving the trauma of 9/11 in New York City, I lost my job and faced the overwhelming stress of losing family members. This period of grief and anxiety triggered an undiagnosed autoimmune disease that attacks my corneas, leading to significant vision loss. Despite completing my first master's degree in HR Management with honors and a second in Mental Health, I found myself without work, insurance and income for over seven years while waiting for disability. During that time, I did small jobs but rarely got paid, and struggled for years to secure disability benefits.
During this time, I also cared for my mother until her passing just before the COVID pandemic. Since then, I have been living alone, relying on food banks, and facing mounting expenses. My autoimmune condition, which presents one way as keratoconus, requires specialized contact lenses and ongoing treatment that are not covered by insurance. On top of medical costs, a severe storm damaged my home, taking out the gutters and several appliances, adding to my financial strain.
I have always tried to approach life with humility and gratitude, guided by my spirituality and love for others. I would be grateful for any kind of support given in love, honesty, and transparency to help me move through this chapter in my life. My goal is to have a new business or entry into a new career. Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to me as I work to rebuild my life, care for my health, and pursue my passion for creative writing. Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation.
