Hi. My name is Bren and I am a 40-year-old living in Santa Cruz, who enjoys playing music and learning about nature. I'm reaching out to my extended community for support.
I am raising funds for treatment for a serious condition that I have been struggling with for the past eight years. Chronic illness has changed my life drastically. Back in 2016, I was able to go on long hikes and do other physical activities while continuing to work full time. These days, I need quite a bit of assistance for simple, daily household tasks such as dishes and laundry.
In 2020, I found out I have a severe fatigue condition and received a ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) diagnosis from Stanford. I am also currently pursuing a CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) diagnosis, of which I meet all the criteria. Recently, I discovered a highly recommended treatment for CIRS called the Shoemaker Protocol, named after Dr. Shoemaker.
Researching this treatment has given me hope and I’ve been looking for a way forward for a long time. There are days when I am stuck in bed and find it challenging to do even the most sedentary tasks. These periods are known as fatigue crashes, and I get them about 3-5 times per month. On a good day, I can walk short distances but have used a wheelchair for longer distances. Having to manage this fatigue condition so carefully on a daily basis has affected my mental health, my ability to travel, and connect with my family and friends.
My father, Stephen Banister, is a retired physician and shared, “The protocol Bren is pursuing for CIRS seems promising and safe. I completely agree with this choice.” My dad will be supporting me throughout this process by accepting the funds we raise through this platform and dispersing them for the Shoemaker protocol. Your generous financial support will allow me to participate in this promising new treatment, which could have life-changing results. I appreciate you donating as you are able and helping us spread the word about this fundraiser, as there are many measures I will need to undergo that are not covered by my insurance.
On the following site patients reported one of the main medications for this protocol being very effective.

If you have any questions about the Shoemaker Protocol or why I want to try it, feel free to reach out. After eight years of living with this chronic illness, I am ready for my quality of life to improve. Thank you so much for all your help in donating and spreading the word.
All my best,
Bren
