Hello everyone. My name is Bree and I’m a non-binary visual artist in Atlanta. I’ve recently moved back to Atlanta in 2018 and it’s been a rollercoaster trying to find a place to live. I found my current home via a Facebook ad and some recommendations from friends. I moved in on March first with my 2yr old cat Patrick and in the beginning things seemed okay. Long story short, my roommate moved out June 1st without any prior notice (I literally came home to their things packed and the house torn apart). They only gave the landlord a days notice and for whatever reason the landlord doesn’t view this as property abandonment (which it is) and is putting all of the responsibility on me because they decided to leave. Also, the roommate I replaced all of a sudden decided to reach out to tell me that the bills were never switched and the energy bill alone is $900. That makes no sense as I’ve only been here 4 months and have been paying my roommate (the one who moved) for the utilities on time every month. When asked to send a detailed description/screenshot of the monthly charges they never responded. That was June tenth. This week, after being on furlough since March because of COVID-19, my job decided to let me go because I couldn’t afford the $72 one-way/$140 round trip Uber (Price increased once the riots started in the city!) everyday to get there while also trying to pay my landlord to secure this months rent and make sure I wasn’t on the street. I simply can’t afford to stay and pay my roommates part of the rent/bills and I don’t deserve to have my livelihood threatened by someone else’s impulsive decision. I have until next week (the end of the month) to find a place and move or else I won’t have anywhere to go. I’m reaching out for help so that I can secure first months rent and a deposit for a safe place to stay and also a uhaul to get me there. I already have a new job lined up (yay!) and should hopefully be working again by mid July, I just need to not be homeless until then. Please donate whatever you can, no amount is too small.
