Hi everyone,
I am reaching out on behalf of my niece, Bree, who recently had an unexpected seizure this summer. This happened during the short gap between graduating from Grace College and starting her graduate assistant coaching role at Bethel University, where she will be earning her master’s in organizational leadership.
On the morning of July 3, Bree’s uncle Troy heard her collapse in the bathroom. He broke down the door to find her unresponsive, gray, and foaming at the mouth while having a seizure. It was a terrifying moment for everyone who loves her, and while Bree is handling this with courage, the event has placed a heavy financial and emotional weight on her and her family.
Bree is the kind of person who lights up a room, whether she’s encouraging friends with a quiet word of kindness or pushing herself on the field. She played softball for years as a catcher, a position that requires grit, strength, and the ability to lead under pressure. She is bringing that same determination to her recovery, and she wants nothing more than to get back to helping others and building her future.
Right before this, Bree had used her college nest egg to purchase her very first car, which she now cannot safely drive until she is cleared by a neurologist.
To add to the challenge, Bree worked at a summer camp to help cover her expenses while waiting for graduate school to start, but her summer job made her ineligible for AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) coverage. Now she is facing significant out-of-pocket costs for her medical care during this coverage gap.
Here is what we are expecting:
Ambulance: $1,500
Emergency Room Visit: $3,000
CT Scan and Labs: $1,200
Neurology Consult and Follow-up: $500
Potential additional testing (EEG): $800
Potential MRI if ordered by neurology: $1,500 (estimate)
Total anticipated out-of-pocket costs: $7,000 to $8,500, depending on whether additional testing like an MRI is needed for Bree’s care.
We are setting up this GoFundMe to help Bree cover these costs so she can focus on recovering and stepping into her new chapter as a coach and graduate student without carrying this financial burden.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will directly help Bree manage these unexpected medical bills. Thank you for keeping Bree in your thoughts and for supporting her during this challenging time.
With gratitude,
Aunt Shannon
