Hello everyone, I am fundraising for my last year at Xavier University of Louisiana.
My name is Bree Arnaud and I am a Senior at Xavier University of Louisiana, where I am studying Business - Sales and Marketing.
After leaving school due to some personal family matters. I decided at the top of the year that it was time for me to return to school and finish my program. Following my acceptance back into the University and filling out my FASFA for my last two semesters. I was met with the news that I would not be able to get Financial Aid due to me surpassing the allotted time frame.
And that is why I have created this campaign. In order to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree from Xavier University, I will need Thirty Thousand Dollars for both Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters plus books that I will need for my classes.
I know what many might be thinking, just apply for a Federal Loan with Sallie Mae but unfortunately that is not an option right now.
Here’s the story behind how I got here.
I began my journey at XULA in August 2011 as a Biology major with dreams of becoming an Anesthesiologist. After a few semesters and long nights of studying, I struggled to keep up with my classes and found myself on Academic Probation. Because of this I was removed from the Biology department and listed as a Deciding Major.
I was then introduced to Computer Science, where I found a new love for coding following my time on my High School’s robotics team.
And after a few semesters and getting off of Academic Probation, I talked to the Head of the Computer Science department and decided to switch my major.
I know what y’all are thinking, “She finally found a major.” Wrong! While I had a love for Computer Science, I quickly found that it was not the major for me.
After talking to my advisor and the Head of the Computer Science department, I decided that this wasn’t the major for me. Back to Deciding Major.
I was then place in an Economics class, and introduced to the Business Department on the other side of campus. At this point I was just looking for where I belonged on campus.
I talked to my new professor who was extremely resourceful at the time, whom told me to take a peak at the Business Department.
Where I reached out to the Head of the Department, my SASO advisor and my former Biology Advisor where they asked me what my goals were for the next five years.
I knew I wanted to start a Business working with animals but wasn’t too familiar on where to start.
It was this conversation that solidified my new Major. The Business department is made up of three areas: Sales and Marketing, Accounting and Finance. I knew I didn’t want to working in Accounting or Finance. After going back and forth between Marketing classes, I decided on Sales and Marketing.
Everything was going great, my grades were improving and everything seemed to be going well but because of switching my majors. I now had too many hours across the board.
For as long as I could remember. I have struggled with my mental health and college put those issues under a microscope. Due to part of financial reasons and my fears of failing again.
I withdrew from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2017. Started working for an Attorney and created my side hustle of taking care of people’s pets.
After working for a couple of years, and launching my Business, Black Dawg Bark (professional dog training company). I decided to apply for readmission to the university in Fall 2019 but a few weeks before the semester was set to begin. A family matter would change the trajectory of my plans and mentally stop me from returning back to school.
Following the height of Coronavirus Pandemic in Spring 2022, I knew it was time for me to get back into school and complete my program.
I applied to be readmitted, was accepted and was excited about finally returning to school, completing a life long dream of being a college graduate.
After speaking with the head of the department, my advisor, and applying for FASFA.
After a couple of months of reaching out to the University to figure out what all I needed to return in the Fall.
I was alerted by the Financial Aid department that I reached my maximum timeframe for fudging and instructed to submit an Appeal explaining my situation.
Following up getting my appeal forms, meeting with my advisor, as well as the SASO Department. I submitted my appeal and about 30 minutes later received an email that I wouldn’t be able to appeal due to surpassing the maximum timeframe.
I am crushed. There is no way that I will be able to afford tuition, University fees, and textbooks on my own. I need a total of Thirty Thousand dollars to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Business - Sales and Marketing.
This degree will help prove to myself that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to. It’s been a longtime coming and a steep climb up this heel but I have come this far and I refuse to stop here.
I (Bree Arnaud) am now taking the time to ask anyone that will listen to my situation for help.
I am extremely grateful for those that can donate and/or share my story.
