Help Breanne Breathe Again
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
My daughter Breanne has been struggling with her breathing for well over a year now and was finally diagnosed after several months of testing with Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis. If you are like myself, you probably have never even heard of this disease. It is rare and affects woman in their childbearing years and has been linked mainly to women of Northern European descent. Breanne checks all the boxes. This actually started during her pregnancy which threw us off, not realizing how serious her condition was. We thought it was just pressure on the diaphragm due to how high she carried her baby.
Subglottic stenosis (SGS) is a narrowing of the airway below the vocal cords (subglottis) and above the trachea. Subglottic stenosis will involve narrowing of the cricoid, the only complete cartilage ring in the airway. This disease if left undiagnosed and untreated can be life threatening.
The Canadian healthcare system has been very slow in getting her a consult/surgery date and we fear with the speed this disease is progressing she does not have the time to wait for the process to play out in Canada. Out of desperation, we reached out to a very highly recommended ENT at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit where we were met with exceptional care as well as a CT scan and surgical date booked almost immediately. We are confident this is the path we must take in order to get her the care she so desperately needs. She has a 7 month old son at home that needs his mama. She is struggling to even walk across a room at this point or carry a conversation without needing to stop to catch her breath. With each day that passes Breanne's condition is worsening. This is a person who was very strict with working out 6 days per week and eating a very clean diet. Now any kind of excerssion takes her breath. It is so frightening and heart breaking to watch my perfectly healthy, strong, beautiful daughter succumb to this disease.
Since she will have to pay for this surgery out of pocket we wanted to set up this GoFundMe for her to help lessen the financial burden. Whatever you can give, big or small, is greatly appreciated. We also ask for your prayers that this surgery goes well without complication and for a speedy recovery. Thank you so much for any support you can provide!
