Help Bread Get a Reliable Car for Medical School

Hey, I’m Kaylea! I have a friend. A trans friend. A trans medical student friend! (impressive and smart and cool, I know)
For their personal privacy I will call them Bread!

Bread has always been the type to pull themselves up by their bootstraps as long as they could talk. Bread’s first car was a 1997 Grand Am at 16 years old that he took pristine care of for 7 years and drove until the day the old gal’s engine would cost more to fix than Bread had to his name.
Bread ceased to have a car for 7 months until they were accepted into medical school and were able to secure a loan (due to having a job at the time). Once medical school started, it became unrealistic to have a job and keep up with the academic demands. So Bread did what most medical students do! Treat medical school like the full time job it demands!

Four months after they got their first adult car ready to take medical school by the horns, a teen driver recklessly drove into their car, totaling it…. The teen driver’s insurance compensated Bread only enough to cover the remainder of that loan they took out to get the car.

At that point, Bread was without a car, without a job for any loan lender to feel comfortable giving him another loan to get a different car, cannot have a job outside of medical school, and no family to turn to for support… Except some very good friends who do what they can.

Hope dawned when Bread was able to finagle a car through a deal with their mother! Bread was pumped and finally had independence again to at a minimum do DoorDash until they could find a higher paying position somewhere! Which lasted for two months…. Bread, like the responsible car owner they are, took their ride in for a check as soon as they saw the “check engine” light.
(The only light that had come on…)

bread received news from the dealership that the engine of their car was “ruined” and would cost $12,000 to fix…

Bread, due to sustained stress and minimal support during insecure periods, is obviously doing extremely poorly. For their dignity, I will not spare those details.

the point is: we gotta get this dude a modest and reliable car so that he can achieve their trans-queer dreams of delivering dignified healthcare to disenfranchised communities!!!!

The ultimate goal? $15,000… Somehow!

Yes, we are shooting for the moon! Bread has worked too hard by themself to get to where they are at for their closest friends to not do everything they can to help them!!! I believe in them and I believe in my ability to rally hope and compassion in people for a cause.

The money has been budgeted to snag a deal on Carvana and to set them up with cushion fund to go towards car insurance in Louisiana, gas, and a small emergency fund for unexpected maintenance.

If you are able to donate and Bread’s story sounds familiar to you, resonates with you, sits with you… please donated even literally a dollar.

I have other plans up my sleeve to try and fundraise on their behalf to ease the burden of worrying about it, but if you see this anywhere in the world and feel called to send anything, please do…

help support a future doctor who is trans and treats everyone with the dignity they deserve!!!
