Help Brave Little James
Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Sal and I'm fundraising for a sick baby boy.
Gavin and Sophia live in a small country town in South Australia. They have two daughters and were amazed to have a surprise baby boy in November 2020. His name is James. He has been the most content, happy and healthy baby - such a blessing!
So it was especially devastating and shocking when James went from being healthy and well to suddenly struck with a life threatening illness. He was flown to the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide and the team there put him into ICU on life support. His little heart was inflamed and failing. James' heart had an infection that was causing serious damage to the muscle. He continued to deteriorate and was flown to The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. The specialists there were finally able to diagnose his condition as myocarditis/cardiomyopathy.
The decision was made to fit James with a 'Berlin Heart' that is pumping for his left ventricle.
This amazing device sits outside of his little body and has tubes going in to his heart. The hope being that this will relieve some pressure on his heart muscle and allow it to repair itself. If that does not work, the Berlin Heart provides a bridge to a heart transplant.
And so you see this beautiful little boy and his loving family have a long and challenging road ahead. Temporarily relocated to Melbourne to access the leading paediatric cardiology care in Australia.
They are away from their community, friends and jobs.
How can we help James? By making a donation in support. No matter how small, if enough of us can contribute we can help to ease some pressure and provide some practical assistance. If they don't have to worry so much about how to pay for the minefield of new expenses, they can continue to give little James the best chance of recovery.
Thank you thank you for reading James' story and helping to promote awareness of his condition. We will keep you updated on his progress - stay posted!
