Hi everyone,

The Washburn Family is reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support for Ethan Washburn.

Ethan has always been the strong, steady foundation of our family — a loving husband to Melissa, devoted father to his children (including Milo, Lilly, Zaid, Kinsley, and Daniel), and the one who showed up for everyone else. He grew up in Royal City, WA, and has deep roots in the Royal City and Othello communities. Now our whole family is rallying around him as he faces one of the hardest fights of his life.

Ethan has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a serious blood cancer. It started with repeated emergency room visits and blood transfusions beginning in early April. After a bone marrow biopsy, his doctors confirmed the diagnosis.

Tragically, Ethan has now lost three brothers to blood cancers:

Greg Washburn (age 46 in 2024)

Kimbal Washburn (age 46 in 2022)

Jordan Washburn (age 26 in 2008)

As of today, May 17, 2026, Ethan has just been admitted to UW Hospital in Seattle. He is preparing for a stem cell transplant at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. A perfect 10/10 donor match was found in Germany — an amazing blessing that has sped up the timeline. The full journey includes pretreatment, chemotherapy, the transplant, and recovery, expected to take about four months away from home.

In the family photo above (and the additional photos from recent Facebook posts), you’ll see Ethan surrounded by the love that will carry him through this — his wife Melissa, children, and the whole Washburn crew. Now it’s our turn to support him through this intense treatment so he can focus completely on healing and come home to us.

How the funds will be used:

Temporary housing and travel for Ethan and Melissa in Seattle for the full 4-month process

Ongoing household bills and daily expenses back home in Washington (Royal City / Othello area)

Lost income while Ethan is unable to work and Melissa is by his side in Seattle

Support for the rest of the family (meals, childcare, keeping life running at home)
