Kai needs our help!

Kai is the 8 year old soccer loving son of Brooke and Rick-who after presenting with chronic headaches was diagnosed with the unimaginable, a cancer to be determined as a diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumour (DLGNT) in August of 2024. DLGNT is a rare primary central nervous system tumour. Due to its spread throughout Kai's spinal cord and brain the tumour is inoperable, and as a result of this tumour growth Kai suffered consequences of hydrocephalus and has had a shunt put in place to reduce the pressure around his brain.

It has been an incredibly tough journey so far with Kai now 10 months into a grueling chemotherapy regime to try and halt the tumours' growth, stop its spread, and prevent neurological damage.

Despite this unimaginable adversity, Kai has continued to amaze his family, friends and all those who know and love him with his bravery, optimism and continued ability to find joy in the everyday things that matter most. He loves spending time with his mates, playing with his little brother Sonny and is an absolute soccer fanatic! Ronaldo better watch out!

Kai has spent more time in hospital over the last 12 months than any child ever should , and unfortunately due to the nature of this unforgiving cancer, his journey doesn't end with completion of the long chemotherapy regime he is currently undergoing. Kai will require continued ongoing hospital visits and regular MRI's to consistently monitor his condition for relapse.

As you can imagine, the extended and frequently unexpected hospital stays have made it difficult for Brooke and Rick to maintain their ordinary work schedules. As any parent would, they are trying to be as present for Kai as they can as they navigate their new normal and provide him with the best care and support services possible. Any donations would help to ease the financial burden of any of these expenses and assist Kai's family in improving his quality of life.
