Help Brandy Whiskers Heal After Attack
Donation protected
Hi all! I’m Katherine and this cutie baby’s name is Brandy Whiskers, who, on Saturday, June 7th, was unfortunately attacked by two dogs my family was fostering.
These were very gentle and affectionate dogs, and they did not try to attack my outside cat, Garfield, so we had no reason to think that there would be any problems. However, while I was away, they somehow managed to opened my bedroom door and my brother woke up to the sound and sight of the two dogs having Brandy by her front and back end, shaking her, aggressively, as if she were a chew toy.
As a result, she suffered an external abdominal laceration that needed stitching, but most pressing was the internal abdominal laceration (hernia) repair that threatened her life. And seeing as she’s not even 2 yet (we all know cats can get much older) I had to save her. Everyone that meets her loves her, and most importantly I love her, so I pulled every available resource I had and got approved for a CareCredit card so that she could have a chance and so that we could have more time together.
Because the vet so graciously worked with me and was able to compromise on post-op bloodwork and observations, her surgery and vet ER bill came out to $3,000.00 (my max approval), which means she lived, but we weren’t, and aren’t, out of the woods yet.
By the grace of God, and my mother’s impossible nursing skills, she is still with us today, but because she was in shock for so long (her temperature went down to 90° (cats run 101-102) and stayed there for hours), there have been complications.
Due to the trauma and blood loss, she’s anemic, she has a fatty liver (from lack of eating), which has improved, however, as of her vet visit today, Tuesday, June 17 (bill = $398.82) is confirmed to be constipated, but she is improving and most importantly, she’s in high spirits.
She’s been purring, she moves around when she can, and goes to the litter box, but we’re not out of the woods just yet. She still needs monitoring, which means more vet bills (more bloodwork, maybe more x-rays, meds, etc) and as I’m a college student, and my mom is unable to work due to disability, we’re pulling every last resource because she’s fighting and there seems to be a light at the end of this tunnel. So I’m asking for your help.
Currently, her total vet bills come out to be $3398.92, but as we still have a ways to go, I’m asking if we can try for $3,700. There will be more bills, of which will more than likely consist of bloodwork ($53) and X-ray ($158), plus an exam fee ($58) costing a total of $296.00, at least, which would be an overall total of $3694.92
Anything helps. I’m working this summer (for resume experience) but it won’t cover enough to really make a difference, as my finances were already tight due to school. I know money is tight all around, and God will provide, but whatever can be spared would be a tremendous help.
