Meet Honey: A Lifeline for Me and My Family
My name is Brandy Mann, and I want to share a bit of my story in hopes that you’ll understand why a service dog like Honey means the world to me—and to my family.
In the fall of 2021, I had a drastic change in health. I began passing out unexpectedly, with no warning. It was terrifying—not just for me, but for my husband Carter and especially our two young children, Blane (6) and Ella Mae (4). After years of searching for answers, I was diagnosed in 2024 with Adrenal Insufficiency, a rare and serious condition that can cause sudden drops in blood pressure, extreme fatigue, and, in my case, fainting. It has turned everyday life into something unpredictable and often frightening.
Living with Adrenal Insufficiency means that I don’t always know when my body might fail me. I can go from feeling fine to being on the floor in a matter of moments. This has put a heavy emotional and physical burden on my family. Blane and Ella have had to learn, far too young, about emergency protocols and how to call for help. My husband Carter carries the weight of being both a caregiver and a father holding everything together.
That’s where Honey comes in.
Honey is a specially trained service dog who is currently being trained at Lone Star Service Dogs in Decatur, Texas. She will be able to detect the signs of an oncoming adrenal crisis or fainting episode before I’m even aware of it. She’ll be able to alert me, give me time to sit or lie down safely, and bring me medication. Most importantly, she’ll be a calming and stabilizing presence for my children. They’ll know that Mom is never truly alone, even when they’re at school or with family.
Honey isn’t just a dog. She’s hope. She’s safety. She’s a step toward giving my children the kind of childhood they deserve—one where they can feel secure again.
With Honey by my side, I can reclaim some independence and give my family peace of mind. But we need your help to make this a reality. We’re working hard to raise the funds to complete Honey’s training with Lonestar Service Dogs and bring her home by November of this year. Your support, no matter how small, will forever be a part of our story. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us bring Honey home.
