I’m Brandy Rose, a game developer, podcaster, and actor. As a queer, trans, disabled, indigenous producer, I’ve made it my mission to bring more significant opportunities to queer, trans, disabled & BIMPOC people in the TTRPG scene. I mentor marginalised and under-privileged up-and-coming game designers, participate in fundraisers and charity streams, and aim to create a more diverse and inclusive online community for gamers, writers, actors, and creators.
I’ve been living in Texas, hoping to be closer to my dad, but due to compounding chronic illness and my worsening financial situation, I’ve been left mostly isolated. I struggle with multiple chronic conditions and live in an extremely inaccessible area for me as a wheelchair user. As I do not have access to health insurance, I cannot receive treatment for my conditions.
These health issues have pushed me to make the decision to go home to Germany, to be with my friends and family and community, in a place where I will have a strong network of support and access to healthcare to address my chronic conditions so that I can manage them. I’ve reached a point where I’m genuinely concerned for my well-being if I’m unable to access treatment, and it’s become clear that my life depends on getting this help.
Earlier this week, I received news that my dad had passed away. Being in a place with no care system or community support in the aftermath of this loss has been incredibly difficult, in addition to my worsening health issues. It’s important to me that I can be among my family and friends to help me through this situation, rather than remaining in Texas, a place that has negatively impacted my mental and physical health.
I’m asking for $10,000 to cover the costs of breaking my lease agreement, finding and securing housing in Germany, transporting and shipping my belongings, and getting me stabilised in Germany once I’m back.
I’m incredibly grateful for any contributions. This has been a difficult decision to make. Still, I’m hoping that being able to close this chapter and return to a place of safety will help me to get much-needed stability and relief, and allow me to begin to heal both mentally and physically.
