Nothing is worse than a home fire—especially right before Christmas. My nephew Brandon and his wife Melissa, along with their children, were living with Brandon’s father-in-law when tragedy struck. A kitchen fire broke out and destroyed everything they had. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but sadly, Brandon’s father-in-law did not have insurance, so there will be no help from the insurance company. This family has already been through so much, and now they are facing the unimaginable loss of their home and belongings.

Brandon works multiple jobs to provide for his family and Melissa works at a local hospital, but this loss is overwhelming. The fire affected everyone in the home: Caitlyn (22), who is caring for her 7-month-old baby; Lucius (17), who lives with Autism; Marcus (15), a bright and resilient teenager; and Brandon’s father-in-law, who is retired and recovering from a recent stroke. They have lost everything—clothes, furniture, keepsakes, and most importantly, the sense of security that a home provides.
