Hello, meet our brother, uncle, son, Brandon McGary-Whitt, 40. We are asking for support to bring Brandon back home so that we as a family can help care for him. We know that love and support are a big part in healing especially when it is not physical. About 15 years ago Brandon was diagnosed with schizophrenia who later developed multiple personality disorder (DID) after being tased by HPD 12x excessive shock force and sustaining trauma and damage to his brain. Because of that and now his current condition it is important to his healing and important to us to have him back home in Texas surrounded by love. On February 25,2021 he was found unresponsive and not breathing when by the grace of God someone called the ambulance and they were able to revive him. Brandon is currently being cared for at a hospital in California while all of his family resides in Houston, Texas. Why is Brandon alone in California you might ask; Prior to the incident with HPD, Brandon was an aspiring basketball player who would follow his favorite basketball team around the country. After moving to California, Brandon became homeless and refuse to move back home to Texas because due to his DID he believed he was an 18 year old who had a chance at basketball. Brandon has endured a lot as well as lost so much but through it all Brandon has never lost his faith in God, not even for a split second.
Brandon was first taken to the hospital in California, on February 25th 2021, where his heart stopped for a 3 full minutes. After the doctors were able to get his heart beating again they informed us that he had extreme brain swelling that would never go down. The doctors then began contacting his family and asking us to make a decision on pulling the plug as Brandon was announced brain dead and was only being kept alive by the ventilator. We did not give up though, after 7 days of debating the hard decision and Brandon having no treatment for the swelling on his brain, Brandon is now able to breathe with the assistance of a trachea. Brandon has shown enough progression to be moved back home, though his insurance doesn't cover a trip from California to Texas. We are asking for financial assistance that will cover the cost of his flight with Medair as we just really want him home and around his family who will aid in his healing and treatment process. The doctors told us Brandon would never be able to open his eyes or breathe on his own again; A month later, Brandon has proven them wrong and is doing both, the swelling on his brain has also gone down! We are forever blessed to still have Brandon here with us, so with that being said-
ANY donations go a long way and will aid in getting Brandon moved to somewhere he can receive endless love. We, his family, appreciate whatever is given and we appreciate all the prayers and kind words. To those who don't have to give, but would if they did, we also thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
