Help Brandie Beat Cancer

In late October 2021, Brandie elected to have a life-changing surgery in attempt to end her suffering with Endometriosis and Uterine Fibroids. Brandie was not prepared to receive the heartbreaking news from her surgeon after the procedure. Pathologists discovered a rare, aggressive form of Uterine Cancer, known as Stage 1B Leiomyosarcoma.

In Brandie’s words: “I hung on to hope that it was early. Choosing to have this surgery may have saved my life.  Unfortunately, my surgeon had to morcellate my uterus due to its size. In doing so, cancer cells spread throughout my pelvis and abdomen.

After a referral to UC Davis Cancer Center, multiple battles with Cigna, and too much time, my CT and PET scans came back clear.  The plan was to remove my body’s estrogen supply (my tumor had estrogen receptors) and monitor for disease progression.”

On February 1, 2022, Brandie went in to have her remaining ovary removed.  The surgery should have taken approximately thirty minutes. Three hours later, Brandie received the devastating news.  The cancer had spread to her peritoneal and bowel surfaces.  The surgical team was able to remove several tumors. However, not all were safely able to be removed, and the cancer staging was updated to 3.

Brandie will begin Chemotherapy on February 21st. Please join us in supporting Brandie in the fight for her life. “I’m hopeful and terrified.  Grateful and angry at the same time.  Leiomyosarcoma does not have a great prognosis. However, I am prepared to fight.”
