Dear Seacoast Community,
Almost one year ago this month, I survived the devastation of Hurricane Helene. It was one of the hardest chapters of my life, but I was able to move through it because of the love, generosity, and support of this very community. If there’s one thing I know to be true about Seacoast, it’s this: we show the fuck up for each other.
Right now, one of our own needs us.
Many of you met Brae, a local drag artist, at our Seacoast Burlesque & Drag Show last month. Their performance blew us all away—the immense talent, artistry, and heart they brought to the stage was unforgettable. Brae instantly fell in love with this community and, in true Seacoast spirit, immediately wanted to give back. They are scheduled to offer a free class to our community this Saturday. And yes—the class is still ON. Brae desires nothing more right now than to be surrounded by the love, energy, and connection of community.
But alongside that love, she needs our help in a bigger way.
Early this morning, Brae lost nearly everything in a house fire. In her own words: “Literally everything I own—except for a box of wigs, my makeup, and a dresser of clothes—I lost EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING.” This loss also includes their partner’s car. As a performer, all of the material Brae uses to create and share their art has been destroyed. Rebuilding from a loss this great is overwhelming.
For those of you not connected to the Seacoast Stilettos community but who have been touched by Brae or her work in other ways, you already know just how special she is, and how worthy and deserving she is of all of the outpouring of love. We’ve only just met Brae less than one month ago, and she has already touched our hearts deeply. She is a staple in this community, and we are grateful to be in her orbit.
This is where we come in.
No amount is too small. Every dollar is a step toward helping Brae replace essential items, rebuild her performance materials, and find some stability during this unimaginably difficult time.
This community has proven again and again that when one of us is in need, we rally. Let’s show up for Brae now the way we always do—with generosity, love, and the fierce spirit of support that makes the Seacoast community so special.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for whatever you’re able to contribute. Together, we can help Brae rise from this loss and remind her that she is not alone.
With gratitude & love,
Samantha
