Hi! I’m helping raise funds for Brad Smith, the father of a close friend, who is going through a very difficult medical recovery.

Brad, an 85-year-old lifelong resident of Deep River, Connecticut, has always been someone who worked hard, lived simply and loves the home he built over a lifetime. He’s also known around town as a friendly, familiar face - someone who enjoys getting out, stopping by the local gas station and catching up with friends. One of the hardest parts of this situation is that he likely won’t be able to drive into town anymore, meaning those simple, meaningful daily connections may no longer be part of his routine.

Recently, Brad went through a sudden and traumatic medical emergency. What started as a blockage in his leg quickly turned into a serious circulation issue. His condition worsened rapidly, leading to an aggressive infection. He was hospitalized, underwent surgery to place a stent and ultimately had to have part of his foot amputated to stop the spread.

He is now in a rehabilitation facility, working hard every day toward recovery. While we are grateful he is on the road to healing, the journey ahead is not an easy one.

Brad lives on a fixed income and now faces significant medical expenses, ongoing medications and the need for continued care. In order for him to safely return home - the place he wants to be more than anything - his house will need adjustments for accessibility and comfort. He will also require in-home support, as his mobility and independence have changed.

His daughter will be moving in to help care for him, but there will still be many additional costs as they navigate this new chapter together.

At 85 years old, Brad’s wish is simple: to be back in his own home, surrounded by the life he built and to continue forward with dignity. With his 86th birthday coming up in May, our hope is to help make that possible.
