On July 25, 2021, Brad Ramey was admitted to the Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA for what was thought to be pneumonia with an abscess. During a bronchoscopy, it was quickly discovered that the abscess was actually a tumor. Brad was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital where he could be cared for by a team of specialists. During an attempt to remove the tumor, it was discovered that the tumor extended from the bronchial tube into the right lung, completely blocking airflow to the lung. The tumor could not be removed. On July 30, Brad was diagnosed with a low-grade neuroendocrine tumor (NET) in the lung. NET is a very rare form of cancer. Currently, Brad is awaiting a treatment plan and is at home on IV antibiotics to treat pneumonia. At this time, it is unknown whether the treatment will be chemo and radiation or lung removal. His mom, Kristina, is currently missing work to care for him. His next appointment with the infectious disease doctor is on August 25. At this time, it is hoped the infection will have resolved so that he can undergo cancer treatment.
