Help Baby Bowser's Surgery Costs

Hi!
As you may or may not be aware, my partner and I rescued little Bowser after he wandered into our warehouse last week. We estimate he’s around 4 months old, but It was obvious from looking at him that he hadn’t had the best start to life. Despite his rough start, it hasn’t stopped him being a loveable delight and we all fell in love with him very very quickly.
In spite of his condition, we hoped there was a loving family pining for him so rang the dog warden who advised they would log him on their systems and his family would have 28 days to come for him. Given his fragile state we didn’t want him to sit in the shelter waiting so we said we’d take care of him until the appropriate time had passed/ someone came forward.
Unfortunately, through total accident (as anyone with their own dogs would appreciate) and Bowser being in such a fragile way, he got hurt and has damaged both bone and ligaments in his leg. After a visit to the vet we’ve been advised that we’re looking at £2k for surgery to get him on the mend and back into shape.
Now usually we’d be logging the claim with our insurance company, however due to the nuanced situation with Bowser we weren’t able to insure him as we are only considered temporary guardians until the warden process has ran its course. This means the unexpected bill is something that is going to have to be covered by us. Whilst we don’t expect this to raise the whole amount, I thought I’d see whether the community spirit that told us the right thing to do was to look after Bowser might be duplicated on some scale to help us better manage this situation
