Bowser and Mochi are not just pets—they are the heart of our family. Bowser, our 14-year-old shihtzuh-pomeranian mix, has been by my side since my early 20s, offering comfort through every challenge life has thrown my way. Mochi, our sweet one-year-old shihtzuh, came into our lives after we lost our beloved Pooh Bear. She has been my constant companion, helping me cope with PTSD and the grief of losing my father. Both dogs bring so much joy, love, and healing to our home. We plan our days and trips around them—they are truly our children.

This morning, our world was turned upside down. While Bowser and Mochi were in our backyard for their usual morning routine, two large pit bulls broke through our neighbor’s damaged fence and attacked them. I tried everything to reach them—screaming, climbing the fence, and running through the neighbor’s yard. The attack was brutal, and I watched helplessly as my tiny dogs were shaken and bitten. When I finally reached them, I rushed them to the animal hospital, terrified for their lives.

Bowser suffered a ripped-out canine, possible broken jaw, and multiple lacerations. Mochi was bitten even more severely, with punctures on her back, neck, and face. The vet is concerned she may lose her left eye. Both dogs are currently sedated for a full evaluation, and their wounds will need extensive cleaning, suturing, and drains to prevent infection. X-rays, pain medication, and possibly surgery for Bowser’s jaw and Mochi’s eye are all part of their treatment plan. The costs for their emergency care, surgeries, and follow-up treatments are significant and could increase depending on the extent of their injuries.

We are devastated and overwhelmed, but we are determined to do everything possible to help Bowser and Mochi recover.
