Help Bowie Heal from Myasthenia Gravis induced Pneumonia
Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Shalimar. My boyfriend Brian and I adopted our sweet rescue pup, Bowie, in May 2024. He was rescued through Southern Paws Rescue in New Jersey after being found abandoned on the side of the road as a baby. Despite early injuries that left one of his hind legs shorter than the other, Bowie never let it slow him down.
He’s been full of love, awooos, and heart from day one—until his world suddenly changed.
A Sudden and Scary Decline
On April 28th, 2025, Bowie unexpectedly lost the use of his hind legs. His appetite disappeared, his personality faded, he started losing weight at a rapid pace and he seemed confused and weak. After a month of vet visits, imaging, and specialist consults, we finally got a diagnosis on May 24th: Myasthenia Gravis (MG) — a rare neuromuscular disorder that causes severe muscle weakness and fatigue.
To make things more difficult, Bowie also developed megaesophagus, a condition that impairs his ability to swallow and puts him at constant risk of aspiration pneumonia—a potentially life-threatening complication.
Emergency Hospitalization
On May 26th, Bowie was hospitalized with aspiration pneumonia. Thankfully, it was caught early and his outlook remains strong—but the road to recovery is long, and the care is costly.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Bowie’s medical expenses have escalated rapidly:
• Initial vet visits and diagnostics: $400 → $4,000
• Medications, follow-up testing, and specialty care: $6,000+
• Hospitalization for aspiration pneumonia: ongoing and growing exponentially
We’re doing everything we can to support Bowie, but we need help to continue providing the care he needs to survive and recover.
❤️ How You Can Help
Bowie is young, strong, and full of love—but he needs help to heal. Any amount—no matter how small—makes a huge difference. And if you’re not in a position to donate, just sharing this page means the world to us.
We’ll continue posting updates as Bowie recovers.
Thank you so much for being part of his journey.
With gratitude,
Shalimar, Brian & Bowie
