Why are you doing this fundraising?
I lost my entire life savings to an international organized scam. And I almost wanted to end my life with it. Given this second chance, I want to build back a better life for myself and a better world for everyone else.
What does this GoFundMe page mean to you?
I have four main objectives that I hope this GoFundMe page can help me achieve.
- Raise money to pay off my credit card debts (that the scammers manipulated me into withdrawing).
- Raise awareness about this type of scam. I cannot stand seeing another person having to go through the psychological torture that I did.
- Increase public attention to my and similar cases, hoping this will urge law enforcement to pursue, continue, or collaborate with others beyond their jurisdictions to catch these borderless criminals.
- Encourage other victims to come out and talk about their experiences. The number of victims will speak volumes. Our power is in this data and statistics.
How will the raised funds be spent?
After realizing that I had been scammed for nearly three months, I was left with $10,800 in debt on my credit cards. I have been making some progress toward paying off this debt. Therefore, slightly less than half of what I raise here will be used to pay off my credit card debts. About a quarter of the raised funds will be used to help me build back my life. For example, the raised funds will help me find mental health support, obtain additional training or higher education, or pursue legal actions (if any in the future). The leftover funds will be used to further awareness campaigns about scams, the mental health of fraud victims, and suicide following fraud. Eventually, I would love to use the awareness campaign to help raise more funds for other victims.
How much should we donate?
Please consider donating $10 to $20. However, GoFundMe charges a transaction fee of 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation. This means that if you donate $20, $0.88 will go to GoFundMe. Any tip amount you leave will also go to GoFundMe. If you would like to make sure that I receive 100% of your donation money, please consider other methods (you may reach out to me directly).
