Help Suzanne: In Loving Memory of Boston Mike Dovey

To many of those who know my Step-Father, he is one of the most selfless beings I know. From running Alcoholics Anonymous groups in his spare time to even inviting unfamiliar faces to our Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays. This man would give all that he had if it meant helping his neighbor and well, he could definitely use all of our help, prayers, and utmost support during this time...

On Tuesday, April 1st 2025 My Step Father (Boston) Mike Dovey, had been diagnosed with Cancer in his liver, lung, as well as kidney, and is scheduled for his Oncologist appointment on Tuesday April 8th 2025. He hasn't been able to work because of this and also due to preexisting conditions such as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - a group of lung diseases that make it difficult to breathe, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis) which has made it difficult for him to even accomplish daily tasks on his own let alone work. Because of these factors, my Mother Suzanne has been working for the both of them but we all know or can empathize with how troublesome this is. My Mother works as a Public Transport Driver and although she works extensive hours, she does not make enough to support the two of them especially with these new challenges they both will be facing both financially and emotionally...

My Step-Father would give the clothes off of his back to help another. Most of you know him because he's been introduced into your lives to be a guide and to assist, or simply to be a great friend. It breaks my heart to have to even be in this position writing this but it's the best way I know how to help my family, they would never do this for themselves...

With all of this news being relatively fresh, we still are waiting on more answers and taking things as they come. I will of course be posting updates on this platform regularly as well as specifics regarding necessities my Step-Father and Mother may need. Until then, I'm reaching out towards contributions that as of now will all go towards living expenses. There will be many times where my Mother has to leave work last minute to care for my Step-Father and although her employment is protected under FMLA (The Family Medical Leave Act - a federal law that allows eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons) however she is out of paid time off, all of her time off going towards helping Mike will be unpaid. This leaves her in a very uneasy position, incredibly anxious, and it absolutely pains me to see them in this way.

Thank you ALL for taking the time to read this, to share this platform, to contribute, to keep our family in your prayers. We are so thankful and blessed by each act of love being displayed in our lives right now, I know Mike feels the absolute same!
