We have a friend, Bosco, that has become a part of our family, who was arrested by ICE and is being detained at a detention facility in Baldwin, MI, leaving his wife and 2-year-old daughter without him. Bosco is an immigrant from Africa who has been in the US for 6+ years, seeking asylum and permanent citizenship. He has been working diligently with his immigration lawyer and doing EVERYTHING that is required of him to abide by immigration laws, court orders, and the naturalization process, while being mere steps away from obtaining permanent citizenship.
On June 30th, ICE agents came to Bosco and his family's home and said that he had not returned a court-ordered verification of his current address (where he has lived for 3-4 years); therefore, he was in violation of said court order and was being arrested. Bosco never received this mailing to be able to comply with the court order, but the burden of proof is on him, which is impossible. This arrest and detainment make everything about the process of obtaining citizenship harder; as in more costly, extends the timing, and takes a major toll on their overall well-being.
We are asking for donations that will both go towards helping Bosco's wife and child with the costs of living while he is detained and will also help to fund his bail and legal fund.
