Bordie is a cherished member of our Fenway Bark family. Recently, we noticed changes in her care and soon learned the heartbreaking truth: Bordie’s mom had been seriously ill, housebound for weeks, and was ultimately hospitalized with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome, a severe neurological condition. She is still in the hospital, and it is undetermined when she will be able to return home. While her mom was unable to care for her, Bordie was taken in by Animal Control until we could bring her safely into our home.
The home was found in unlivable condition. The cat and Bordie were both malnourished and in need of veterinary care, including exams, testing, and updated vaccines.
Bordie’s mom lives alone and now has no income. Medical bills are piling up, her home requires professional cleaning, and she is facing the inability to cover basic expenses, including her mortgage. While the prognosis is uncertain, there is still hope that with time and skilled nursing care, she may regain enough function to return home. Because of that hope, we are doing everything we can to keep Bordie and the cat out of shelters.
• Fenway Bark has stepped up to care for Bordie in our home and will continue to consider her part of the Fenway family. All daycare, grooming, food, and boarding expenses will be covered by us.
• A Co-worker of Bordie's mom has selflessly stepped in to care for the cat.
With no family in Massachusetts, we are the only ones here able to help.
We are asking for support to help with veterinary care for Bordie and the cat, hazmat cleaning of the home, and up to three months of mortgage payments while Bordie’s mom is in a skilled nursing facility. We have never created a GoFundMe before and do not ask for help lightly. In this rare and heartbreaking situation, we hope our community will come together to support a devoted pet parent and her animals. Any contribution, share, or kind thought means more than we can express. Thank you for helping us keep Bordie and her family safe, together, and surrounded by compassion during this incredibly difficult time. At Fenway Bark, pets are family, and we are committed to keeping Bordie safe and loved while her mom heals. Thank you for standing with us, with Bordie, and with a family facing circumstances no one ever expects.
