Help Boopy Get Healthy

Donation protected

UPDATE: We gave Boopy some IV fluids last night, since he hasn’t been eating. He had a bad reaction to the IV and vomited all of the food we had gotten him to eat/collapsed. We took him in this morning to get his blood transfusion today after considering all of our options. There is no guarantee that it will work.

Hey everyone. As some of you may know, Boopy has been having some health issues for the last few weeks. Originally when I brought him to the vet, I thought that whatever was going on wasn’t going to be that serious… but as it turns out, Boopy is very close to needing some major medical interventions, like blood transfusions.

About a month or so ago, I noticed that Boopy was not eating and had lost a little weight. He also had been acting off: not wanting to sleep with us at night, not greeting me at the door when I walked in from work, etc. I knew something wasn’t right, so I brought him to the vet. After the vet ran some test, she told us that he was experiencing anemia due to unknown causes, and sent us home with some steroids and antibiotics to give him. We carried out the full course of the medication the vet gave us and went back two weeks later (today) to get more blood work done and see if anything had improved.

Our follow up today didn’t give us the peace of mind that we were expecting, and Boopy has gotten markedly worse. His blood platelet count has gone down from 24% to 13%, with 10% being the threshold where he will start needing blood transfusions. We asked the vet to do an ultrasound and X-rays to see if there was any evidence of cancer which could be causing the anemia, but neither test came up with anything.

At this point, we have spent over $1200 on tests and medicine to try and get Boopy feeling better and back to being himself. The vet told us today that she doesn’t know what the root cause of his anemia is… and we do not know how long we will have to have him on medicine or if it will even be helpful. We were told that he will have to return to the vet every week for blood work to see if his condition is improving with new medicine/dosages we got today. There is a high probability that he will have to have blood transfusions, which are extremely expensive, to stabilize his condition.

Anybody who knows me knows that I love Boopy more than anything and I will do anything to keep him healthy and happy. Boopy has been the one constant in my life for the past 11+ years, and I can honestly say that I would not have made it through several very lonely and isolating periods of my life without him. He is my best friend. I normally am against “begging” for help in this way… but I need to do everything I can think of to make sure I get Boopy the best care. I need to make sure I have done absolutely EVERYTHING in my power to get him healthy again. Please help us, any amount donated counts and I appreciate anything given.
