In 2019, I met one of the most extraordinary people I’ve ever known. From the very beginning, he carried himself with a kindness and selflessness that lifted everyone around him. What I didn’t know at first was that behind the scenes, he was carrying enormous burdens while still showing up every single day for others.

Over the years, Boon became the heart of our community, Team Phoenix. As a moderator, he poured countless hours into making sure our space was safe, welcoming, and full of joy. Many of us wouldn’t be where we are today without his dedication, encouragement, and unwavering loyalty.

But Boon’s own journey has been unimaginably difficult. Just a couple of years ago, he was healthy and active. Then, a series of strokes—triggered by complications from blood pressure medication—changed his life forever. Since then, his health has declined sharply: his kidneys failed, he began dialysis, and he’s endured multiple hospitalizations. Most recently, another series of strokes left him unable to speak or eat on his own. Today, he communicates through text-to-speech and relies on a feeding tube, with his mother as his primary caregiver.

And yet—despite everything—Boon still shows up for us. Even in the darkest moments of his own life, he continues to care about others, to support this community, to be the light he has always been.
