Booker is my 2.5 year old golden retriever, and I adopted him in July 2024. He’s brought so much joy and energy into my life, and it’s been heartbreaking to see him so sick. On December 15th, Booker started showing signs that something was wrong—he lost his appetite, became lethargic, had coughing fits, and developed a fever. I took him to our primary vet, but the initial tests didn’t give us any clear answers. Things got scarier when, on December 21st, he developed swelling on his right muzzle. That night, we rushed to the emergency vet for more tests and care.

After a week with little improvement, I brought Booker to an animal hospital, where he spent five days under emergency and internal medicine care. He was treated for pneumonia, and a CT scan finally revealed the cause: a small puncture deep in his esophagus that had become infected. It was a long, stressful two and a half weeks, and seeing my usually playful golden retriever so low on energy was incredibly hard. The vet bills have been overwhelming. While I’m grateful to have pet insurance, it will only cover about half of the costs, leaving a significant amount for me to manage on my own.

The funds raised here will go directly toward paying off Booker’s vet bills and supporting his continued care as he recovers.
