Her name is Bonita. She’s a 3-year-old Chihuahua mix, just 10 pounds, and her life is hanging by a thread. We were notified by a kind bystander who saw Bonita outside a church in Mexicali, where she had been abandoned—kicked out by people who didn’t want her there. She’s been dragging her tiny paws for months, and her skin has torn so badly that now you can see her bones. She’s so fragile. Once we found her, we drove from San Diego to Mexicali, then on to Tijuana, to rush her to the hospital in Baja. Bonita was admitted for emergency care—she needed IV fluids, pain meds, and a special diet. After blood work, we discovered she is also anemic. Bonita must stay in the hospital until she stabilizes, and we’re fighting to get her the surgery she desperately needs—both her legs will need to be amputated.
We are Pokie and Friends Rescue, a small nonprofit that has saved hundreds of dogs, but Bonita’s case is exceptionally tragic. The donations will cover Bonita’s blood work, hospital stay, transportation, and the surgery she needs to survive. Please, if you can donate—even a small amount—or share this with your network, it would mean everything. If you can’t donate, sharing or tagging someone who can is a huge help. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you—this is Pokie and Friends Rescue, and we truly appreciate you.
