Help Bogo City!

Lieve vrienden, familie en kennissen,

mijn naam is Willemijn Feenstra en ik ben 6 weken lang in totaal vrijwilligerswerk in de gezondheidszorg aan het doen in de Filipijnen op het eiland Cebu, in het arme dorpje Bogo City. Al na 1 week in het Cebu Provincial City Hospital besefte ik dat ze hier hard hulp nodig hebben; te weinig medewerkers, te weinig medicijnen, te weinig materialen, bijzonder slechte hygiëne en veel te weinig ruimte. Patiënten kunnen hierdoor heel vaak niet de juiste behandeling krijgen en komen daardoor helaas te overlijden. Een goed voorbeeld van de tekorten is de Emergency Room. Deze afdeling heeft namelijk te weinig dokters en verpleegkundigen, te weinig materialen zoals beademingsapparatuur en te weinig medicijnen. Wat me het meeste opviel is de drukke gang voor deze afdeling. Dit komt omdat de Emergency Room maar 4 bedden in deze ruimte heeft. Eigenlijk heeft het hele gebouw een tekort aan bedden, in totaal zijn het er namelijk maar 140. En dat terwijl dit ziekenhuis gebruikt wordt door bijna 500.000 inwoners! Dit zorgt ervoor dat erg zieke patiënten soms uren op de gang zitten te wachten op bankjes, in rolstoelen of zelfs op de grond voordat er plek is in een bed om behandeld te worden. Daarom wil ik naast mijn vrijwilligerswerk hier een extra handje bij helpen. Dit wil ik doen door geld op te halen voor extra bedden in de Emergency Room. 1 bed kost +/- €250,- en ik wil graag zo veel mogelijk bedden doneren! Ik zal de donateurs uiteraard op de hoogte houden wanneer ik de bedden heb gedoneerd. Dit zal waarschijnlijk in de laatste week van januari zijn. Wil je me helpen deze arme patiënten een bed te geven? Doneer dan het bedrag dat jij wil, elke euro telt!

my name is Willemijn Feenstra and I am doing volunteer work for 6 weeks in the Healthcare project in the Philippines on the island Cebu, in the poor small village Bogo City. Just after 1 week in the Cebu Provincial City Hospital I noticed that they really need help here; a lack of staff, a lack of medicines, a lack of equipment, really bad hygiene and clearly not enough space. This often causes patients to not receive the good treatments and then they sadly pass away. A good example for these shortcomings is the Emergency Room. This ward has a lack of doctors and nurses, equipments like respiratory machines and a lack of medicines. What struck me the most is the crowded hallway for this ward. This is due to the fact that the Emergency room only has 4 beds available for use in this ward. Actually, the hole building only has 140 beds in total. However, this hospital serves close to 500.000 inhabitants! This causes really ill patients waiting for hours in the hallway on a bench, in wheelchairs or even sitting on the ground while waiting for an available bed to get their treatments. This is the reason why I want to lend an extra helping hand besides my volunteer work. I want to do this by collecting money for extra beds in the Emergency Room. One bed costs +/- €250,- and I want to donate as much beds as possible! For sure I will keep the donors updated when I gave the beds to the hospital. This will probably take place in the last week from January. Do you want to help me giving those poor patients a bed? Then donate the amount you want to, every euro counts!
